Scribe is a browser extension by Memcap that fixes typos and grammar, polishes wording, and inserts a saved email signature while you write.
What Scribe accesses
Only text you explicitly select and act on. Scribe does nothing until you highlight text and choose “Tidy up” or “Polish” from the right-click menu. It does not read, monitor, or collect page content in the background.
Your settings (your correction endpoint, your personal access key, and your signature) are stored in your browser’s extension storage and are used only to make the correction request.
How that text is used
When you choose Tidy up or Polish, the selected text is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to Memcap’s correction service, which uses a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to return the corrected version of that same text.
The corrected text is returned to your browser and replaces your selection. That is the entire flow.
What we store and retain
Message content is not stored. The text you send is processed to produce the correction and is not retained by Memcap after the response is returned. Under Anthropic’s API terms, API inputs are not used to train their models.
For security and abuse prevention, our servers keep basic operational logs — a timestamp, your account label, the request size, and the source IP address — but not the message text. These logs are used only to rate-limit and detect misuse of access keys, and expire automatically.
What we do not do
We do not sell or rent your data.
We do not use your text for advertising.
We do not share your data with anyone except the AI provider needed to perform the correction you requested.
We do not collect health, financial, or authentication data. Please do not select and send content you would not want processed by an AI service (for example, passwords or sensitive personal identifiers).
Signatures
Your signature (plain text or formatted HTML) is stored only in your browser and is inserted locally when you choose “Insert signature.” It is not sent to our servers.
